How to Apply Lipstick and Lip Liner
Some women prefer to apply lipstick right from the tube, while others really need the extra guidance that using lip liner
gives them. Generally speaking, lip liner is helpful, but if you are using it for definition of your lips, it will need to be reapplied after the
lipstick, to give it more presence, and so that it isn't the last thing standing when your lipstick wears off during the
day.
First, run a light layer of lip balm along your lips to help keep them moist and make application of your make-up
easier.
Choose a lip liner that is a shade darker than the lipstick you'll be using. Outline your lips carefully, to make the most of their natural
shape. If you have particularly full lips, trace the liner on the inside of the edge and narrow them down. If you need more fullness,
particularly in the top lip, take the liner right to the edge. For an overly full bottom lip, try lining only the top one, which will take some
focus away from the thicker lip.
Once the lips are outlined, apply lipstick either directly from the tube, or if you have trouble getting it where you want, use a brush with
fairly stiff bristles. Start at the center of the top lip and work outwards using smooth strokes. When done, blot to smooth out the application
and remove any excess. Reapply your liner, and work any obvious edges into your lipstick with the brush.
